Porter landed some nice combinations throughout the bout but Crawford remained patient. Porter (31-5-1) fought an exceptional fight until that moment, doing what he does best by pressuring his opponent and smothering him with shots. He said he and his father had not previously discussed what would happen in a moment of trouble. Shawn Porter said he “didn’t expect that” would happen. Kenny Porter, Shawn’s father and head trainer, called for the referee to end the bout early. Crawford dropped Porter early in the round with a short left and landed a similar shot moments later that sent his opponent again to the mat. Terence Crawford defended his WBO welterweight title on Saturday night in Las Vegas, finishing Shawn Porter in the 10th round after Porter’s corner threw in the towel.
